Expressions Of Interest are invited for
the purchase of the original authentic handwritten letter by His
Royal Highness Edward Prince Of Wales on board H.M.S. Renown to the
girls and boys of Australia. This document (a copy of which is set out
below) was made at the culmination of the visit to Australia and New Zealand
by the Prince which left England on the 15th March 1920, when he was accompanied
by Lord Louis Mountbatten as A.D.C.
The Prince was the eldest son of King George V and Queen Mary,
and after his father's death he was crowned King Edward V111
on the 20th January, 1936. Because of his determination to
marry a divorcee (Mrs Wallis Simpson) which at that time was likely to
cause a constitutional crisis, he abdicated the throne on the 11th December,
1936 and received the title of Duke of Windsor. The Duke died in
1972.
